Information on Retinopathy for People with Kidney Disease

Presented by Dr. Ephraim Atwal

Postponed from Wednesday, March 15

New Date TBA

4444 Bryant and Stratton Way, Williamsville, NY 14221

Dr. Ephraim Atwal of Atwal Eye Care will share information on retinopathy in a presentation hosted by the Kidney Foundation of Western New York.

Retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in American adults. It is the result of damage to the blood vessels of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Retinopathy often has no symptoms in its early stages, so regular eye exams are especially important for people at risk.

Chronic kidney disease shares risk factors with several eye diseases, including retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes. Uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure) also increases a person’s risk of developing retinopathy.

Eye exams, timely treatment and management of related health conditions can all help to protect vision.
