Communications students meet with Kidney Foundation of WNY staff

staff-(1).jpgThis past week our group communications class took a field trip to the Kidney Foundation of WNY. Jeremy welcomed all of us with open arms and water before we began our discussion. Jeremy discussed deeper into what this non-profit organization does for our Western New York community. We viewed a short informational video about the kidney donation process and we had an open discussion about our feelings and questions we had.

Then, we met Barbara who is a staff member of this organization as well as a kidney recipient. She has worked with this kidney patients for over 20 years and she gave us insight into her personal experience. For example, she discussed what dialysis is, the waiting list process, and where she received her new kidney from. We learned how dialysis affects your life physically and the financial aspect of it.

Finally, we met the executive director John who explained the impact of our service learning project. We discussed where we stood on our projects and what to expect from the trivia night group and interviewers!
